Yuba County Supervisor Mary Jane Griego will serve as vice chair for the regional transportation planning group Sacramento Council of Governments, after the chair’s board of directors chose her for the role Thursday.
Griego, in her third term on the board of supervisors, is one of 31 board members representing six counties and 22 cities in the greater Sacramento region, including both Yuba and Sutter counties.
Rocklin Vice Mayor Peter Hill will serve as SACOG’s chair for 2012. Griego has previously served as chair of the Yuba County Board of Supervisors twice, in 2005 and again in 2010.
SACOG should be disbanded immediately. It should also be illegal. Did you or I vote on setting up a 6 county super committee to decide our futures for us? Did you or I get to vote on who serves on this committee? If this group makes decisions for the entire 6 counties, who gets to appeal decisions made by this group? This committee is deciding your life right now, and they are doing it by going around the counties and the cities by doing it like this. ILLEGAL!!! WE didn’t vote to start a “council of governments” nor did we vote to hand over our rights to this undemocratic and unelected “council.”
All members of the SACOG board of directors are elected officials from the respective agencies, including Supervisor Griego and the vice mayor of Rocklin.
uh oh, looks like we got us an antiagenda21er here. Beware the fluoride in the water, the UN is trying to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids!!!
bvandermeer: we voted for them to represent OUR county. We DID NOT vote for them to go be one decision maker on a “super comittee” that makes decisions for 6 counties. SACOG does not represent or defend your interests, or my interests. They represent the powerbrokers in Sacramento and their interests. Think the arena issue. What was KJ’s first option? Figure out a way to get all of the surrounding counties to tax their citizens to pay for a new SACRAMENTO arena, something that will not benefit Yuba County, but if SACOG has its way, you will help finance.
Ghenna: First off, I could care less about flouride in the water or not. My water comes from my well, not the city. Second, you would do yourself some good if you actually did RESEARCH on Agenda21. If the goons get their way, we’ll all be living in apartments in Sacramento and going anywhere near a forest will be a felony.
PS vandermeer: did you get the opportunity to vote on your tax dollars being used to fund a 6 county super committee? I sure as hell don’t remember voting for another layer of beauracracy to regulate my life even further than the city, county, state, federal and even UN.
It is useful for counties to work together when they are tied/connected socially. Think about it. How many people from up here go down there to work, to shop, to be entertained? Lots. So it makes sense for those counties to work together. Same thing with the bay area, same thing with southern california. Do you think, if left to their own devices, yuba county would have had the money to expand highway 70 to 4 lanes, build a second bridge across the bear river? answer is no. Yuba County is one of the poorest counties in the state, and it doesn’t sell enough gas to cover the entire cost of projects like that.
It benefits Yuba county to belong to an MPO.
